For more than 70 years, the Korean Peninsula has been tragically divided at the 38^th parallel. The Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) was established by the Korean Armistice Agreement signed on July 27^th, 1953, assigning two nations on either side, Switzerland and Sweden for ROK and Czechoslovakia and Poland for DPRK. Despite many efforts to open a path to peace and reconciliation, the two Koreas are still technically at war and the conflict remains frozen.

Switzerland is in a strategic position to support a sustainable peace process on the Peninsula. Being responsible for carrying out the tasks defined by the ceasefire agreement, Major General Patrick Gauchat will speak on following topics:

• Armistice now vs before
• Impact of the Summit policy and of the NNSC nowadays
• Developments of Confidence Building Measures
• Peacekeeping operations.

Two eminent speakers, Dr. Claude Béglé, Entrepreneur, founder and president, Symbiosswiss; former member of Parliament, Switzerland, and Dr. Marek Aleksander Czarnecki, Former Polish Member of the European Parliament, Chairman of the "South Asia Peace Forum", will respond from their own experience.

The discussions aim at offering more understanding on the situation at the DMZ and examine the role of Europe, particularly of two nations attending NNSC meetings, Switzerland and Poland, in supporting a steady rapprochement on the Korean Peninsula.
